Clara Louise Carter, the daughter of Peter M. and Nellie Holmberg Hansen, was born November 4, 1919 north of Dickens, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in rural Dickens, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from Lake Center School in 1937.
Clara married Harold August Carter on January 29, 1944 in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed the family farm for many years until Harold's sudden death in May of 1973. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. In 1975, she moved to Spencer, Iowa, where she transferred her membership to Grace United Methodist Church in 1983. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and especially loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren's games. In 2007, she transferred her membership back to the United Methodist Church in Ruthven.
Clara passed away at the Ruthven Care Center on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Louis, Edgar, Henry and Charles (Bob) and one sister, Alma Chase.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons: David Carter of Loveland, CO and Thomas and his wife, Sharol Carter of Ruthven, IA; her 8 grandchildren: Karen Von Seggern, Chris Carter, Dana Carter, Kelly Carter, Tyler Carter, Kyle Carter, Cassady Carter and Tristan Carter; 3 great grandchildren: Carter Von Seggern, Elliana Von Seggern and Cayle Carter; one brother, Ernest Hansen of rural Dickens, IA; two sisters: Mabel Carter of Loveland, CO and Norma and her husband, Bob Drake of Spencer, IA; two sister-in-law's: Iva Hansen of Ruthven and Wilma Hansen of Sioux Rapids, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Ruthven United Methodist Church in Ruthven, Iowa.
