Clara Martin

Clara Anna Martin, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Jebsen) Litka, was born August 26, 1909, in Grant Township, O'Brien County near Sutherland, Iowa. She was raised and attended country schools in the area. Clara was baptized October 27, 1910, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Calumet, Iowa, and later confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Clara married Weldon "Skin" Martin on August 14, 1946, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Sutherland area. Clara was very proud and spent many years taking care of her garden and raising chickens. She also enjoyed baking and fishing. In 1968, they moved into Sutherland. While living in Sutherland, she worked at the Sutherland Variety Store and Gamble's Hardware Store. Clara was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Clara passed away on October 8, 2008, at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, Iowa, at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Weldon on January 16, 1992; and one sister, Rosella Litka. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Leona Plautz of Sutherland, IA; her brother, Arnold Litka of Sutherland, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
