Clara ”Sis” Lorraine Birchard, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Hvam) Tuttle was born October 9, 1926 in Milford, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Spencer, IA area, where she attended Spencer schools.
“Sis” married Ralph Birchard on August 16, 1946 in Council Bluffs, IA. She lived in Spencer and Ruthven, IA. She worked in dry cleaning for 35 years and Superior Manufacturing for 16 years until her retirement in in 1986. She enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, golf, playing cards, doing puzzles, crosswords, singing, dancing, attending the Clay County Fair, and especially spending time with her family. She will be known for her sweetness and always smiling.
“Sis” passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Spencer, IA, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Ralph in 1984, special friend, Norman “Stub” Christiansen, one son, Steve Birchard; 4 brothers, Ed, Marlow, Walter, and Francis “Buzz” Tuttle, and 2 sisters, Karoline (Lyle) Davis and Yvonne (Keith) Pullen
Left to cherish her memory are her 4 children, David (Evelyn) Birchard of Branson, MO, Jeanne (Larry) Degraaf of St. Cloud, MN, Rodney (Julie) Birchard of Spencer, IA, and Edward (Tammy) Birchard of Ruthven, IA; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchild; Stub’s children Harley & Delores Kraft and Don & Evie Christensen one sister-in-law, Kathrine “Tootie” Tuttle; other relatives; and many friends.
