Clare Edward Triplett

Clare Edward Triplett, the son of Edward and Marion McCroskey Triplett, was born July 2, 1930 in Sutherland, Iowa. Clare also known as "Pee Wee" graduated from Sutherland High School. Clare was an avid athlete in all sports, playing semi-professional football while attending Buena Vista College. Clare served as a Marine during the Korean War. In 1954, he married Mary K. Lyman and they raised four children. Clare eventually left the Midwest, living in Arizona and California, retiring in Spirit Lake and then finally settling back in his hometown of Sutherland. Clare was a colorful character and a great storyteller, who had fun and enjoyed his life wherever he went. Clare was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion. Clare passed away at the Sutherland Care Center on April 23, 2008 at the age of 77 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Betty; his great granddaughter, Desiree; his brother, Burdette McCroskey; a sister, Darlene Cady and his parents, Edward and Marion Triplett of Sutherland. Clare is survived by his son, Clare E. Triplett, Jr. of Harris, IA; his daughters and son-in-laws, Marian and Mark Goble of Martinez, CA and Tamara and Michael Bender of Richmond Hill, GA and Lisa and Douglas Hopkins of Ida Grove, IA; 9 grandchildren: Leslie, Tera, Clare, Sheri, Maxwell, Crystal, Alexis, Kandice and Douglas and 9 great grandchildren. Clare is also survived by his brother, Merle Triplett of Tucson, AZ and three sisters: Maxine Hall of Sioux Falls, SD, Phyllis Sweeney of Hartley, IA and Esther Peterson of Louisiana. He will be greatly missed and in our hearts forever.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Post #152 following the graveside services.

Waterman Cemetery Sutherland, Iowa Memorials may be designated to the Sutherland American Legion.
