Clare Lucille Olsen

Spencer

Clare Lucille Olsen, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on January 1, 2018, at her residence at the loving and caring Northshire Nursing Home in Spencer.

She was born June 9, 1921 in Virgil, South Dakota to Archie and Mabel (Saville) Hebron.  Her family moved to Cherokee, Iowa, where Clare graduated from high school.

Clare married the love of her life, Arnold "Ole" Olsen, in Cherokee on September 3, 1939 at her parent’s home.  They began married life farming near Nemaha, Iowa; later moving to Cherokee.   They raised their family in the Greenville community where they were members of the Greenville Congregational Church.  Clare served at various times as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, Bible school assistant and active in the Ladies Aid.

Known for her tasty cooking, Clare was a cook at the Greenville Elementary School and was Head Dietitian at the Spencer Municipal Hospital where she retired. Clare quilted over 100 quilts that she hand-pieced to give to her family.  Clare and "Ole" enjoyed dancing, playing cards, making handmade crafts, and traveling in their motor home with their loving pets, Dolly and Baby.  The last ten years, Clare developed a love for reading. Her favorite thing most of all was to spend time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, Richard Allen, three brothers, Albert, Foster and Wess Hebron, a grandson, Ronald D. Heien, and a great- granddaughter, Christine Marie Heien.

Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Dr Kenneth Hebron and wife, Louise of Indianola, Iowa; her sister, Mrs. Lois Brewer of Forest Grove, Oregon; her brother-in-law, Mike Shull of Council Bluffs, Iowa; her children: Marlene and Brad Cornett of Hudson, NC, Lawrence and Merrie Olsen of Colonial Beach, VA, Donna and Jim Graham of Ruthven, IA; 8 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
