***The family requests that those attending the visitation and services wear a mask covering.

Clarence “Bud” Leroy Taylor, son of Bayard F. and Alta (Fink) Taylor, was born September 20, 1923, on a farm west of Langdon Iowa.  His childhood years were spent in the Spencer, Langdon, and Dickens area.  He received his education at Meadow School #6, a country school, and Lake Center High School.  His early life included farming with horses on the family farm, losing his mother at a young age, and helping out at his Uncle Leo’s and Grandma Taylor’s.

On March 8, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Pannell in Jackson, MN.  They lived in the Langdon area, in Lake Township, farming for thirteen years. They moved to their farm near Spirit Lake in 1963, where he lived until his stroke in 2006, when he moved to Riverview Terrace in Spencer where he contracted COVID.  They had three children: Linda, Mike and Merilee.  Lorraine died in 1988.

Bud farmed all of his life and got his start in farming through his aunt and uncle, Mabel and Leo Taylor, with whom he had worked closely.  Bud spoke of the many changes that had occurred in farming during his lifetime.  He also really enjoyed working with his cattle herd and was proud of what he had built up and raised, they were his pride and joy.  He also made sure his kids had a place to ride their horses on the farm.  His farm operation was a family affair with his children involved throughout the years.  He was actively engaged in farming until the age of 82, when he suffered a stroke.  For many years after Lorraine’s death, he and his daughters made Thursdays a night out for supper, occasionally joined by his son.  This continued while he was at RVT also.  He also enjoyed getting together with his siblings and the many meals they shared.

Bud passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Lorraine, and brothers Dale, Ralph and Marlene Taylor; and Earl and Ruth Taylor; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Beck and brother-in-law, Earl Curry, Jr.

He is survived by his children: Linda of Spirit Lake; Mike of Spencer and Merilee of Spirit Lake; his only two grandchildren: Jayson (Deanna) Taylor of Omaha; and Jill (Troy) Fox and 2 great grandchildren, Salamae and Connor of Greeley, CO; sister, Effie Curry of Spencer; sister-in-law, Clarabelle Taylor of Minnesota; a half-brother, Melvin Taylor of Washington State; sister-in-law, Jeanette Sherman of Spencer and Evelyn Berry of Augusta, Georgia; many other relatives and friends.

Blessed be the memory of Clarence “Bud” Taylor who will be greatly missed!!
