Clifford Lee Pettit, the son of Thomas W. and Maude (Caskey) Pettit, was born on September 13, 1926, in Everly, Iowa. He was raised and received his early education in Everly. Following graduation, he entered into the military on January 4, 1945 serving in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on August 28, 1946.
On December 1, 1952, Clifford married Marilyn Welch in Sioux Falls, SD. Following their marriage, they lived in Everly where he worked for the Farmer's Coop for many years. He later then managed the elevator in Hartley. Clifford was also a self-employed carpenter for many years. He actually built the house in Everly they lived in. The couple eventually settled in Spencer where he continued his carpentry work. Clifford liked to fish and take trips up to northern Minnesota. He also enjoyed tinkering around the house and fixing things.
Clifford passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 in Baudette, MN, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers; 3 sisters and his daughter-in-law, Vicky Pettit.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn of Spencer, IA; 2 daughters: Judy Arnold of LeMars, IA and Diane Rausch and her husband, Bill of Hartley, IA; one son, Stanley Pettit of Spencer, IA; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Harry Pettit and Don Pettit of Orlando FL; one sister, Clara Weiben of Spencer, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M.Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
There will be a Military Service conducted by the American Legion - Glen Pedersen Post #1 of Spencer.
