Colleen Ann Speed, the daughter of Phillip and Helen Sweeney Fogarty, was born December 26, 1936 in Lake Park, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in West Bend and Lake Park, Iowa, where she received her early education. Her family later moved to Gillett Grove, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she began work at the Spencer Hospital and continued working there for many years, 26 years in Home Health.
Colleen married Robert Speed on May 4, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed near Webb, Iowa for many years. Colleen was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, where she was a President of the Women's Guild for many years. She was also very active in the Webb Community, serving as a 1st responder for the Webb Fire Dept, was involved in community drives, won the 4-H volunteer award, was president of the Library Board, the Centennial Committee, Red Hat Club and Federated Women's Club. Colleen also enjoyed the Clay County Fair and was Superintendent of the Dog Show for 35 years and was clerk for the Hog Show for 4-H for many years as well as many other activities too numerous to mention. Colleen truly lived her life through her church, community and family.
Colleen passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the age of 71. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Helen Fogarty; a granddaughter, Abbey Kacmarynski; a grandson, Michael Kacmarynski; two brothers: Tim and Joe Fogarty; a sister, Phyllis Oviatt and two brother-in laws: Jim Finneman & Dennis Ewoldt.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert of Webb; her children: Marcia Sikora of Spencer, IA, Richard and his wife, Cindy Speed of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Mary and her husband, Dennis Kacmarynski of Spencer, IA and Dan and Cindy Speed of Wilton, IA; her grandchildren: Tim & Jenna Sikora, Jon, Alex & Katie Speed, Kyle, Tyler and Brody Kacmarynski, Kelsey, Cayla, Riley, Hallie, Brynna and Josh Speed; a soon expected great grandchild; 8 brothers and sisters; a sister-in-law; countless family and many, many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30a.m., Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin after 2:00p.m., Thursday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00p.m., Thursday eve. at the funeral home. There will be a Vigil service at 5:30p.m., Thursday evening also at the funeral home.
