Colleen Rae Ankerstjerne, the daughter of Kenneth and Goldie (Bloomberg) Murphy, was born December 10, 1938, in Cherokee, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Peterson where she received her education, graduating from Peterson Consolidated School in 1956. She later graduated from Iowa State University in 1959.
Colleen married Baxter Ankerstjerne on June 21, 1958, at the First Congregational Church in Peterson. Following their marriage, they remained in Peterson where they farmed for 45 years until their retirement. Colleen worked as a Home Economic teacher for the Sutherland School District from 1962 – 1975. Colleen was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson where she held all offices and was a member of the Women’s Group. She was on the Peterson Library Board for many years, loved her flower garden, playing bridge, sewing, reading and loved traveling, spending winters in Arizona.
She passed away at Cherokee Specialty Care in Cherokee, Iowa, on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the age of 82. Colleen was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Baxter in 2010.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons: Kent Ankerstjerne, Kirk Ankerstjerne and his wife, Mary and Scott Ankerstjerne; two grandchildren, Jack and Anna; one sister, Kathy (Bob) McCrary of LeMars, IA; other relatives and many friends
