Curtis Amos Paulsen, the son of Harry and Millie (Stricker) Paulsen, was born April 29 1934 in Hartley, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on a farm near Hartley, where he received his education graduating from Hartley High School in 1953. He entered the military in 1954, where he served with he U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1956. He later attended night classes for 2 years at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Curt married Connie Kay Hensley on November 24, 1961 in Lake Park, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Spencer where he began his career at HyLine Chicks International, where he worked for 30 years. He later worked at Great Lakes Aviation for 5 years until his retirement. Curt was an active member of Hope Reformed Church in Spencer, where he was a deacon and in his later years, worked as a custodian for 10 years. He was an airplane buff since WWII and enjoyed building model airplanes and flying them. Curt also loved history, gardening, reading, dancing, lawn work, traveling/RVing, fishing, the water and the Iowa Hawkeyes and just being outside. He was also active in the Y’s Men Club.
He passed away at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the age of 86. Curt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie in 2013; his siblings: Eldon Paulsen, Ferne Petersen, Emery Paulsen, Ruth Gilman and Wayne Paulsen and son-in-law, Joey Elbert.
Curtis is survived by his 2 daughters: Jamie Elbert and her significant other, Brian Mingus of Spirit Lake, IA and her children: Alyssa and Casey, and Carma Moran and husband, Bryce of Panama City Beach, FL, a great granddaughter, Tilly and their children: Tessa and Alex; other relatives and many friends.
