Curtis LeRoy Jacobson, the son of Walter Lawrence and Emily Ethel (Nelson) Jacobson, was born on April 26, 1924 in Palmer, IA. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at the Palmer Methodist Church. He resided in the Palmer area until 1939, when his family moved to a farm in the Marathon-Rembrandt area. He completed his education in the Lincoln-Lee School, graduating in 1942. He then worked for various farmers in the area until entering into the military in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army, in the 970th CIC in Germany until his discharge in 1947. He then resumed farming in the Rembrandt area.
Curtis married Betty Jane Voorde on January 9, 1949 in Rembrandt, IA. To this union, one daughter, Karen Elaine was born. He farmed in the Rembrandt and Peterson area until 1960, when he returned to the home farm east of Rembrandt. After the death of his wife Betty, he married Jean (Kleis) Dornsbach of Rembrandt on April 12, 1980. He continued to farm until 1986 when he retired. He remained on the home farm until the fall of 1997. He then moved to his present home in Spencer. He was very active in the Rembrandt Methodist Church until he moved to Spencer and joined Grace United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Spencer V.F.W. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, sewing for the RSVP program and spending time with his family. He was also active in the Spencer Senior Center and the Meals on Wheels Program.
He passed away at his home in Spencer on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the age of 88. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Betty Jean; his stepson, Vernon Dornsbach, Jr. and one brother, Wilbur.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean of Spencer; one daughter, Karen Peterson and her husband, Wayne of Topeka, KS; four step-children: Veronica Fowler of Ottosen, IA, Linda Clercx and her husband, Craig of Larchwood, IA, Bette Henderson of Wellington, KS and Michael Dornsbach and his companion, Kelley of Marathon, IA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Jacobson of Fort Dodge, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
There will be a Military Flag Presentation conducted by the American Legion - Glen Pedersen Post #1 of Spencer.
