Dale Elmore Larsen, the son of T.C. and Dagmar (Andersen) Larsen, was born on December 5, 1928, in Meadow Township in Clay County. He received his education and grew up in the communities of Spencer, IA, Arnolds Park, IA, and Rancho Santa Fe, CA, before returning to Spencer where he graduated from high school.
On September 9, 1950, Dale married Mary Lou Mett at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Spencer area for over 70 years. They spent summers at their home in Okoboji for 16 years and wintered in Arizona for the past 23 years.
Dale was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where he helped with Sunday School and was an usher for many years. He was involved in Luther League, served as a 4-H leader, an Assistant Superintendent in the Floriculture Division of the Clay County Fair and enjoyed many years as an REC Board member. Dale was a very talented and gentle man who enjoyed gardening, tending to his flowers and sharing the bounty and beauty of his handiwork with others. He played golf until he was 90, was known by friends and family alike as a very competitive card shark and in his younger years, enjoyed dancing. His greatest joys in life were farming and spending time with his family and friends.
Dale passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at his home place surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Lillian, Marilyn and Janet.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Lou of Spencer, IA; his 3 sons: Alan and his wife, Shirley of Phoenix, AZ, Mark and his wife, Robyn of Spencer, IA and David and his wife, Kelli of Spencer, IA; his 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; his brother Eldon (Pat) of Spencer, IA; as well as other family and friends.
