Dale Alan Langner was born on January 28th, 1957 to Wayne Langner and Loretta (Fahr) Langner at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, IA. He began his Christian life with his baptism on February 17th, 1957 at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa and was confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. Dale went to his heavenly home on April 21st, 2023 at the age of 66.
In the spring of 1959, Dale’s family moved to Lake Township in Clay County, Iowa to farm. He started elementary school at Lake Center and finished his education in Terril, graduating in 1975. Dale spent his childhood helping on the farm, as well as being active in 4-H, hunting, fishing, trapping, and sports. All these activities would create life-long friendships, which he cherished until his last day. He loved working on the farm alongside his father, mother and siblings. In April of 1973, his father tragically passed away in a car-train accident, and at the age of 16, Dale’s 50-year farming career began.
In the summer of 1974, Dale would meet his soulmate Sandy (Fell) while she worked at the Dairy Queen in Spencer. After a two-year courtship, they were united in marriage on August 27th, 1976 and 3 months later they would move to their current residence south of Terril. In 1982, they became members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril and would spend from 1979 to 2001 faithfully raising their 2 sons on the farm. During that time, Dale was active in coaching his boys and their teammates, holding elder and chairman positions on the Immanuel Lutheran Church board, serving on the Terminal Coop board, and spending 6 years serving on the Terril school board. He was also employed for 20 winters at General Machine Works in Spencer. In his spare time, he was able to go on numerous fishing trips to South Dakota and Canada with multiple generations of family and friends, which he loved.
Dale spent the last 17 years of his life alongside Sandy being a grandparent, giving tractor rides on his John Deere 3020 tractor, handing out combine suckers, playing card games, and posing for photo ops. His grandchildren were the light in his eye, faithfully attending their church, school, and sporting events. He also continued with his volunteer heart by being a member of the Sons of the American Legion Walsh Post #432 in Terril, serving on the Ruthven Coop Oil board and most recently the Clay County Food for Life board.
