Dale Nellis, the son of Merle and Helen (Baumeister) Nellis was born on March 3, 1933 on the family farm near Hartley, IA. He received his early education by attending country school in the Milford & Hartley area, graduating from Hartley High School in 1952. Following high school, he entered into the military, serving in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on July 31, 1955.
On October 12, 1957, Dale married Linda Aakhus in Jackson, MN. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Spencer for a short time, before settling in Sutherland in 1965. Dale worked at Tyson Food in Cherokee for over 33 years, before retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed on January 30, 1966. He was also a member of the Sutherland American Legion. Dale enjoyed gardening, grilling, fishing, playing cards and watching wrestling on T.V. For many years, he enjoyed woodworking and refinishing antiques. His specialty was birdhouses, benches and shelves. Dale passed away on July 25, 2013, at his home at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughters: Julie Nina Nellis and Melanie Lynn Nellis; his son, Jason Daniel Dean Nellis and one granddaughter, Payton Ann Nellis; three brothers: David, Earl & Lee.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda of Sutherland; his daughter, Kimberly Jara (Mauricio) of Tempe, AZ; his son, Mark Nellis (Amy) of Melvin, IA; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one brother, Leroy (Betty) of Sanborn, IA; his sister-in-law, Karen Nellis of Hartley; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
