Daniel Roy (Mac Donald) Monthei was born in Crossfield, Alberta, Canada on August 19, 1935. Dan was orphaned in 1941 and in 1946 he was adopted by Don and Alpharetta Monthei of Jefferson, Iowa. He grew up in Jefferson and it was there he met his wife, Marian (Scheuermann) Monthei and they were wed on August 22, 1954. In 1965 Dan and his family moved to Spencer, Iowa.
Dan spent many years working as an automotive parts man and was affectionately known as "NAPA Dan" to many. He often dazzled his customers with his ability to remember part numbers off the top of his head. When Dan retired he started woodworking. You could often find him in the garage building things for the family. He loved working on projects with his brother, Bob, and together they built kitchen cabinets and furniture, repaired buildings and finished houses. To his neighbors he was there to lend a helping hand with one of his many tools that he treasured so much. If you ever needed any tool, you just went to Dan's house because he surely had it.
Dan was preceded in death by his biological parents, Roy and Sadie Mac Donald; by his adoptive parents, Don and Alpharetta Monthei; and his twin grandson's, Keith and Jonathon Gates.
He is survived by his wife, Marian Monthei of Spencer, IA; one daughter, Carla Gates and her husband, Gary of Spencer, IA; one son, Kelly Monthei and his wife, Mary of Worthington, MN; four grandchildren: Katie and Thomas Gates and Jean and Kristen Monthei; one great-grandchild, Jacob Daniel Monthei. His siblings: Bob (Mac Donald) Brown and his wife, Sharon of Lake Park, IA, Betty (Mac Donald) Smith of Boone, IA and Dean Mac Donald of Jefferson, IA; his nephews: Steve Day and his wife, Audrey of Des Moines, IA and Joe Day and his wife, Sandy of Belton, Texas; his nieces: Kathy Denny and her husband, Bruce of Hartley, IA, Patty Buhr and her husband, Paul of Spencer, IA, Rita Washburn and her husband, Doug of Hornick, IA; other relatives and friends.
