Darla Rae Bailey, the daughter of Harold and Norma (Silberstein) Gottsch was born May 13, 1941, in Sutherland, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from Sutherland High School. Following high school, she attended a trade school in Omaha, Nebraska, to learn Airline Reservations. Darla was a lifetime resident of Sutherland.
On October 21, 1961, Darla was united in marriage to Truel Bailey at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. She held various occupations throughout her life time. She worked as a telephone operator through high school, as a school secretary for a few years, office manager for a telephone company until they closed, and lastly at Simonsen Iron Works for 22 years until her retirement. Darla was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. She was a longtime charter member of a local women’s group, Century 3 Club. She also helped organize the Labor Day parades for many years, and for 25 years it never rained on their parades. Darla enjoyed camping, cooking and spending time with family.
Darla passed away at the Pearl Valley Rehab and Nursing in Sutherland, Iowa, on February 23, 2018, at the age of 76. She is preceded in death by her parents; and one brother-in-law, Bill Rohrbaugh.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Truel of Sutherland; two sons: Brian (Jami) of Sutherland, IA, and Greg (Janette) of Spokane, Washington; seven grandsons; one brother, Jim (Joann) Gottsch of Pocahontas, IA; two sisters: Carolyn Rohrbaugh of Sutherland, IA, and Paula (Les) Westrem of Osage, IA; a step-mother, Dixie Gottsch of Pocahontas, IA; one step-sister, Keri (Mike) Heubrock of Aurelia, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
