Darlene Cecilia Morony, the daughter of S.M. and Clothilda Nothem Fideler, was born December 3, 1926, in Remsen, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Remsen where she received her education, graduating from Remsen St. Mary's High School in 1944. Following high school, she attended Sioux City Mercy Nursing School and later went to school to become an anesthetist. After her schooling, Darlene worked as an anesthetist at N. Memorial Emergency Room in Minnesota.
Darlene married James Morony on April 25, 1964, in Remsen, Iowa. Following their marriage, she became a homemaker and raised her family. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer where she was president of the Altar Society. Darlene was also active in her spare time. She loved to bowl and was a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame. She loved to golf and for many years, Darlene and Gretchen Hagedorn walked 18 holes of golf four or five times a week. Darlene loved cooking and she fished because she enjoyed spending time with her husband. Most of all, Darlene was an avid Spencer Tiger sports fan and was recognized for her dedication by Spencer High School and the University of Northern Iowa, where Mike played baseball.
Darlene passed away at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa following a long illness at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jim of Spencer; two sons: Paul Morony and his wife, Amanda and their children: Kyle and Madelynn of Spencer and Michael Morony and his wife, Lesley and their children: Margaret and Benjamin of Iowa City, IA; two brothers: Dr. S. Michael Fideler and his wife, Ethie and Dr. Ty Fideler and his wife, Joan all of Spencer; one sister, Edna Wiedenfeld of Fresno, CA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will begin 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
A Catholic Vigil service will be held 5:30 P.M., Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
