Darlene Dorothy Merrill

Darlene Dorothy Merrill, the daughter of Edgar and Amelia Lauck Baumann, was born February 9, 1931 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Estherville, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from Estherville High School. Darlene married Eugene Merrill on November 8, 1956 in Beeville, Texas. Following their marriage, they moved to Spencer, Iowa, where she worked at St. Luke Lutheran Home for 2 years and later worked in the kitchen for the Spencer School System for 4 years. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, where she was active in the ladies guild, served as President for the L.W.M.L. and taught Sunday school for many years. Darlene also devoted much of her time as a Girl Scout Leader and most recently to St. Luke's Auxiliary. She also enjoyed playing cards and embroidery work. Darlene passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Alta Mae Ziemer and one daughter in infancy, Barbara Merrill. She is survived by her husband, Eugene of Spencer; her children and their spouses: Gary and Betsy of Webb, IA, Donna and Mitch Ott of Everly, IA, Linda and Mike Morfitt of Spencer, Denise and Michael Nohner of Watkins, MN and Jason and Kristin Merrill of Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; four sisters & their husbands: Loyce Dreke of Everett, WA, Virgean & Jim Hazel of Denver, CO, Berniece & Ellwood Olson of Tioga, ND and Lorraine & Mark Zeimer of Cottage Grove, MN; 1 brother and his wife, Loren and Belinda Baumann; a brother-in-law, Martin and his wife, Lois Ziemer; other cousins, nephews and many friends.
