Darlene Koenig

Lois Darlene Koenig, 83 years old. Born August 27, 1932 in Spencer, Iowa. Darlene passed away November 20, 2015 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Darlene grew up in Greenville, Iowa and graduated from Gillett Grove High School in 1950. During her school years she loved to play basketball with the Hill Toppers of Gillett Grove High, 4-H was another highly involved activity she enjoyed. After graduation, she married George Koenig on June 4, 1950. They settled on a farm east of Gillett Grove where she was very active in the farming and raising of livestock. During that time four children were born: Terry Jo, William Gerald, Dale Russell and George Roy. Darlene enjoyed bowling, cards and Yahtzee with her numerous friends, gardening and planting flowers every year. She and George also enjoyed many vacations with family and friends. Darlene was always there for people to lend a helping hand and was so appreciative of the smallest gestures offered to her. In her retirement years, she loved to have movie nights with her girlfriends and spending time at the casinos on her moolah and haywire machines. She loved putting together puzzles and embroidery. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life and her conversations always centered around them and their accomplishments. One of the fondest memories of the grandkids is riding with grandma in her green Cadillac and listening to country western music loudly singing together. Darlene is survived by her husband, George; her daughter, Terry (Robert Janssen) of Windsor, CO; her sons: Bill (Karn) Koenig and Dale Koenig both of Ayrshire and Roy (Kristi) Koenig of Laurens, IA; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was much loved and will be missed by all.
