Darlene Luverna Klett

Darlene Luverna Klett, the daughter of Julius (Jake) and Elva (Eichhorn) Meyer, was born June 7, 1922, in Jackson, MN. Her childhood years were spent in rural Jackson for five years where she lived until moving to a farm north of Everly. She attended grade school in Waterford Township and later graduated from Everly High School in 1940. Following high school, she attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA, where she received her teaching certificate. She later taught country school and Jr. High School in Royal, IA, for 5 � years. Darlene married Forrest Klett on November 20, 1942, in South Sioux City, NE. In 1946, they moved to a farm northwest of Everly when Forrest returned from military service. In 1954, they moved to a farm near May City, IA, where they farmed until their retirement in 1978, after which they moved to Everly. She was baptized as a youth and was a long-time member of Hope Lutheran Church in Everly where she was active in church work, was on the prayer chain and a member of 'Martha Circle.' Over the years, she worked at her sister's floral shop, did substitute teaching for 20 years, was janitor of Hope Lutheran Church in Everly for 7 years and made pies at Curtis Caf� for the Clay County Fair. Darlene did a lot of floral arranging for friends and family, threaded needles for the Hope Lutheran quilting group for 8 years and baked for Farmer's Market in Everly for 4 years. Darlene was also a volunteer at Northshire Residence in Spencer. Darlene passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Forrest in 1997; sisters, Lola Meyer and LaVonne (Bonnie)Watters; and in-laws, Donald Klett, Dayle Klett, Duane and Jeannine Klett, Delma Terpstra and Myrl Farquhar. Left to cherish her memory are two sons: Gale Dean and wife, Nancy Klett of Hobart, WI, and Lanny Gene and wife, Barbara Klett of Forest City, IA; four grandchildren: Stephanie and husband, Matt Barnes, Bryan and wife, Cristy Klett, Alicia Klett and Nathan Klett;; one great-grandchild, Lauren Barnes; one brother, Verland (Bud) Meyer and wife, Arlene of Everly, IA; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Janice and Loren Wilson of Milford, IA, Jerry and Diana Klett of Downey, CA, Lowell Watters of Milford, IA, Dick Terpstra of Spencer, IA, Mildred Klett of Everly, IA and Cleone Farquhar of Spencer, IA; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Visitation will begin 4:00 P.M., Friday with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Friday Evening at the Warner Funeral Home in Everly.
