Darlene Wilma Cook

Darlene Wilma Cook, the daughter of Cy and Carrie (Lund) Roemeling, was born May 10, 1935 in Adrian, MN. Her childhood years were spent in Adrian, where she received her education, graduating from Adrian High School. Following her schooling, she worked as a waitress. Darlene married Lorn Martin Cook on July 12, 1955 in Adrian, MN. Following her marriage, they lived in the communities of Ft. Benning, GA, Worthington, MN and later Adrian, MN until moving to Spencer, Iowa in 1961, where they made their home. Throughout the years, she worked at the Campbell Soup Factory, an Egg Candling Plant, Aalf's Manufacturing, Spencer Municipal Hospital, The Camera Shop, Shopper's Supply and at Spencer Community Schools, where she worked in Food Service for 13 years, until her retirement. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughter's (voted Women of the Year) and also the Altar Society. Darlene and Lorn enjoyed their winters in Weslaco, TX. She also enjoyed photography and reading in her spare time. She passed away unexpectedly at her home in Spencer, Iowa on Monday, August 19, 2013 at the age of 78. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Gloria Graham, Francis Kern and Betty Roemeling in infancy as well as two brothers: Douglas in infancy and Robert 'Butch' and 5 brothers-in-law: Virgil Jonas, Ray Neyens, Laurence Deutsch, Gary Langel and Paul Herman. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Lorn of Spencer; her stepmother, Ruby Roemeling of Adrian, MN; ; four sons: Kevin Cook and his wife, Denise of Everly, IA Ken Cook and special friend, Dawn Ressler, Keith Cook and his wife, Tammy all of Spencer, Iowa and Kelly Cook of Algona, IA; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; her siblings: Bill (Sadie) Roemeling of Ohatchee, AL, Charlene Feekes of Adrian, MN, Curt (Diane) Roemeling of Colorado Springs, CO, Sandra Buss of Adrian, MN, Rhonda Archer of Kelso, WA, Rebecca (Bruce) Nuwesh of Hemphill, TX, Dawn (Rich) Chance of Rochester, MN, Kris Curtis of Rochester, MN; one step brother, Robert (Marlene) Greve of Adrian, MN; Lorn's brothers and sisters: Lorraine (Dallas) Poss of Sibley, IA, Betty Herman of Elsworth, MN, Donna Jonas Langel of LeMars, IA, Virginia Deutsch of George, IA, Jim (Mary) Cook of Worthington, MN, Orville (Gini) Cook of Windom, MN, Virgil (Alice) Cook of Adrian, MN, Mary (Lyle) Wolf of Spirit Lake, IA, Margie (Willie) Nath of Adrian, MN; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. A Catholic Daughter's Rosary will be held 4:30 P.M., Wednesday. A Vigil Service will be held 5:00 P.M., Wednesday both at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
