Darold Lee Dirks

Darold Lee Dirks born January 8, 1943 in Pocahontas the son of Harold and Florence (Nitch) Dirks. His childhood years were spent living and working on the farm in Pocahontas with his parents. He graduated from Pocahontas school in 1962. He remained living at the farm helping his parents after graduation.

Darold had numerous jobs throughout his life such as; farming, owning and running a Gas station, working in a garage helping with engine repairs, working at Merrill Manufacturing in Storm Lake. He also owned a Carpeting Installation business.

He married Marilyn (Guess) in 1962 they had two children both girls. They later divorced and married Sandi (Anderson) in 1967 they had three children two boys and one girl. They later divorced and married Janice (Sickelka) in 1993.

He and Janice lived in Dickens Iowa for a few years went on vacation to Texas one year in 1999 and decided they were going to live there.  While living in Texas they both worked at School until they retired.  Darold did lawn mower repairs during his retirement. He also enjoyed riding his Canam motorcycle.

Darold passed away March 5, 2024 in Spencer Iowa at Spencer Hospital. Preceding him in death are his parents Harold and Florence (Nitch) Dirks, Florence’s parents and her 14 siblings, his sister Carolyn (Dirks) Vring and her husband Ray, his grandparents Dick and Gretchen (Ahrens) Dirks, four Uncles Fred, Richard, Edward and Leroy, six Aunts Leona, Violet, Eileen, Eva Marie, Verneeda and Marcella.

Darold is survived by his wife Janice (Sickelka) Dirks of Round Rock Texas, five children Jacqueline (Kevin) Vodraska of Spencer IA, Brenda (Scott) Grove of New Hampton IA, Ken (Jen) Dirks of Omaha NE, Tracy (Pam) Dirks of Broken Arrow OK, Dorinda (ED) Brenner of Alta IA, 14 grand children, 32 great grand children and 2 great great grand children. His two brothers Robert (Janice) Dirks of Mason City IA, Lynn (Deb) Dirks of Alta IA, and one sister Barbra Lehman of Ruthven IA, two uncles Johnny and Roland Dirks both of Witchita Kansas and one Aunt Margie Nelson of California, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
