Dave was born July 5, 1938 in Spencer, IA. He was the fourth of seven children of Norval and Emma Crew. Dave spent his childhood on a farm near Webb, IA and worked diligently in his families farming and hog operations. He graduated from Gillette Grove High School. While in high school he met and married the love of his life Charlotte (Shari) O’Clair on October 26, 1957. For 60 plus years they were rarely separated!
Dave and Shari raised two children – Jeff and Bob. They raised their family in Spencer with a brief period in Ames, IA. They vacationed at a cabin on Lake Belle Taine near Park Rapids, MN.
David was a carpet layer for his entire working life and was well respected in his field. He was employed by Twetten Furniture in Spencer, IA for many years. His quest for perfection and his ’do it right the first time’ attitude were well known by many!
David was happiest while on the golf course, spending time with his wife, children and family; more recently spending time at the Spencer Senior Center volunteering with many charitable endeavors and an occasional game of snooker or pool.
He was a devout Christian and was very active in First English Lutheran Church. He maintained a charismatic personality during his illnesses and constantly portrayed a positive attitude. He will be dearly missed by his wife, family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Shari Crew of Spencer, Jerry and Georgia Crew of Webb/Spirit Lake, IA, LaVonn (Crew) and Monte Putbreese of Maple Valley, MN, Joy Crew (wife of Ron Crew) of Sioux Center, IA, Karen (Crew) and Tom Wheaton of Wichita, KS, Carmen (Crew) and Dave Warford of Prior Lake, MN. Jeff and Roxanne Crew of Spencer, IA, Bob and Denise Crew of Maplewood, MN, Jennifer (Crew) and Joshua Schaben of Spirit Lake, IA, Rachel (Crew) and Ryan Walton of Maplewood, MN, Michael Crew and Melissa Janssen of Iowa City, IA, Emily Crew and fiancé Kyle Van Winkle of Maplewood, MN and Steven Crew of Iowa City/Spencer, IA.
Our words cannot express the gratitude for the kindness of thoughts and deeds bestowed upon Dave and his family throughout his life, death and ultimately his place in God’s house.
