David Norman Yungbluth, 76, of Rossie, Iowa passed away in the early hours of February 6,, 2022 at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa.
David “Dave” Yungbluth was born July 5, 1945, in Spencer, Iowa to Harold Sr. and Helen (Greene) Yungbluth. He was raised on a farm 3 miles west of Rossie, and graduated from Greenville-Rossie High School in 1963. After attending Iowa State University for two years, he entered the Army, where he earned the rank of Sergeant while serving as a helicopter mechanic in the Vietnam War. Dave was awarded the Bronze Star and was honorably discharged in 1968, returning to his hometown. He married his loving wife, Janet Fleming of Gladbrook, Iowa on August 13, 1977. They made their home in Rossie, where Dave served several terms as a councilman and town mayor. Dave spent much of his career operating heavy equipment and trucking. In addition to being self-employed, he worked for Peterson Contractors, Farm Service of Spencer, Dan Kenobbie Construction, North American Van Lines, Graebel, and Shine Bros., from which he retired in 2009.
Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman, and hunting trips with his family in Wyoming were a highlight. He and Janet enjoyed playing 500 in their local card club for over 40 years. Dave was a devoted father and could always be found in the crowd at his sons’ sporting events and other extracurricular activities. He was a member of the Royal United Methodist Church, the Royal American Legion Post 248, and Spencer VFW Post 3159. Dave also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Royal Fire Department for several years.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Pam. He is survived by his wife Janet; sons Kevin of Des Moines and Adam (Shari) Yungbluth of Aurelia; three granddaughters Madison and Jordan of Aurelia and Elizabeth of Logan, UT; brothers Harold “Buddy” (Linda) Yungbluth of Royal, Steven (Helena) Yungbluth of Morro Bay, CA, and brother-in-law Rick Aschenbrenner of Cape Coral, FL; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
