David Sorter

David Robert Sorter, the son of Robert and Florence (Robinson) Sorter was born September 23, 1956 in Los Angeles, CA. his childhood years were spent in the Minneapolis, MN area where he attended school through 8th grade, before moving to Janesville, IA where he graduated in 1975. David enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1975 and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1981. He married Melissa Eastman on September 20, 1975 at the Methodist Church in Janesville, IA. He worked as a cook for John Deere Engine Works in Waterloo, before being transferred to the Rock Island, IL plant. He also drove truck for Bennett Trucking. David enjoyed being on the road and taking the scenic route. He liked cooking, Minnesota Vikings football, and listening to talk radio, but most importantly spending time with his grandchildren. David passed away April 25, 2014 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 57. He was preceded in death by his mother; and an aunt and uncle Bernice and Floyd Robinson. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Melissa of Terril, IA; 4 children, Jim Sorter of Terril, IA, Anne (Ken) Laidig of Graettinger, IA, Karin (Josh) Walmer of Graettinger, IA, and Emily of Terril, IA; 14 grandchildren, Roy, Kyleigh, Caroline, Tucker, Dorothy, Gunner, Chandler, Ashley, Benjamin, Johnny, Remmington, Jennabell, Rueger, and Kimmber; one brother, Dennis of Minneapolis, MN; a half-sister, Lisa Mowery of Templeton, CA; lots of nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
