David Wayne Nelson

David Wayne Nelson, the son of Theodore Martin and Ruth Strelow Nelson, was born September 29, 1941 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in the Royal area, where he attended and graduated from Royal Community School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict. David married Nola Marilyn Parks on May 6, 1966 at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. Following their marriage, they lived in the Royal, Spencer, and Terril, Iowa area, where David ran heavy equipment, dozers and scrapers doing farm excavating and later on road work. After his retirement in 2006 after 35 years in the heavy equipment industry, he started up and was president of N & N Bio Recycling with his son Clint. He was a member of the Little Sioux Lutheran Church in rural Milford. His favorite pastime was farm sales and visiting with neighbors and friends. Dave passed away at the Lakes Regional Healthcare Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jason Nelson in 2003 and a brother, Robert Nicolas. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nola of Terril; one son, Clint Nelson of Spencer; one daughter: Kristi Kautzman of Graettinger and a daughter-in-law, Gina and husband, Tony Kellen of Alton, Iowa; two grandchildren: Thor Logan Kautzman and Lucas T. Nelson; his mother-in law, Garnet Babbitt of Nickerson, NE; three brothers: Phil and wife, Lisa Nelson of Harlingen, Texas, Martin and wife, Pam Nelson of Parker, CO and Paul and wife, Sheila Nelson of Dittmer, MO; one sister, Bertha Ann and husband, Skip Ritchart of Royal, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
