Dawain Fear

September 4, 1932 — January 8, 2010

Dawain LaVerne Fear, the son of Ray and Eva (Abbott) Fear, was born September 4, 1932, in Sioux City, IA. His childhood years were spent in several northwest Iowa communities. He graduated from Primghar High School in 1950 and entered the military in 1953, where he served in the Korean War. Upon returning from his military service, he farmed with his father for a short time and then enrolled in Iowa State University. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1961 with a degree in Agricultural Business and Marketing Management. Dawain married Joan Rae Fick on June 30, 1957, in Hartley, IA. They lived in Ames, IA, while Dawain pursued his college degree. Two children were born to this marriage, a daughter, Cathy and a son, Craig. He began his career working for International Harvester in Cedar Falls. The family then moved to Spencer, IA, in 1963 where Dawain started a long and successful career selling insurance primarily for Farmland Insurance earning several Distinguished Salesmen awards in his 30 plus years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and spending time with his family boating and riding snowmobiles. Dawain was a loving husband, father and grandparent of his three grandchildren. Dawain passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Friday, January 8, 2010, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Ray Fear and a brother in law Harold VanDerSluis. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan of Spencer, IA; his children: Cathy of Lincoln, NE, and Craig and wife, Deborah of West Des Moines, IA; three grandchildren: Ryan, Michael and Catelyn; two sisters: La Vonne VanDerSluis of Sheldon, IA and Karen Yanney and husband, Dennis of Sioux City, IA; one brother, Gaylon Fear and wife, Marlys of Olds, IA, several nieces, nephews and many good friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin after 2:00 P.M., on Monday, with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00P.M., Monday evening at the funeral home.
