Dean Dwight Brugman, the son of Emil D. "Bud" and Gene Englert Brugman, was born December 31, 1948, in Hartley, Iowa. Dean attended Royal Community Schools through grade school and graduated from Clay Central Community School in 1967. He continued his education at NIACC in Ag and Light Industrial Equipment Technology graduating with an Associates & Applied Science Degree.
On November 29, 1969, Dean married Karen Blanchet in Mason City, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Mason City until moving to Syracuse, NE in 1970. In 1971, they made their home on the farm in rural Peterson where they currently reside. Dean is a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal where he served on various council offices and committees. He had also been a 4-H Leader, member of the Clay County Extension Council and Clay Regional Water Board where he served as President.
On May 14, 2009, Dean passed away at his home with his family and friends by his side at the age of 60. He is preceded in death by his father, Emil "Bud" Brugman.
He is survived by his wife, Karen of rural Peterson; two sons, Danny and his wife, Darcy of Royal, IA and Dana and his wife, Crystal of Kannapolis, NC one daughter, Wendy Gaskill and her husband, Mark of South Sioux City, NE; 3 very precious grandchildren: Dayton, Davin and Dalayna Brugman; his mother, Gene Brugman of Spencer; one brother, David and his wife, Sue of rural Royal; 2 sisters: Kathleen Unterbrink and her husband, Paul of Tempe, AZ and Colleen Beatty and her husband, Kurt of Suwanee, GA; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal.
