Dean Richard Reese, the son of John E. and Mabel (Hansen) Reese, was born October 16, 1925, in Plankinton, SD. His childhood years were spent in Alta where he received his early education. In 1938, his family moved to a farm outside of Peterson. Dean graduated from Peterson High School in 1943.
On February 8, 1944, Dean was united in marriage to Ester Fear in Jackson, MN. Following their marriage, Dean entered the Army on June 6, 1944. He served in Belgium and Germany during WWII and was involved in the Battle of The Bulge. Following his honorable discharge from the Army on February 17, 1946, Dean moved back to Peterson to farm with his brother Wayne.
Dean was a member of the United Methodist Church in Peterson, IA, a 50- year member of the American Legion Dean Underwood Post #10, and a charter member of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and had a great sense of humor. Most of all, Dean was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
On October 29, 2007, Dean passed away unexpectedly in New York Methodist Hospital in New York City at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Ward Reese.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ester Reese of Peterson, IA; his four children: Glenda (Ernest) Smith of McKinney, TX, Sheryl (Lonnie) Hansen of Peterson, IA, Dale (Mary-Frances) Reese of Des Moines, IA, Rita (Gary) Garrelts of Ayrshire, IA; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Wayne (Fern) Reese of Peterson, IA, Keith (Wanda) Reese of La Quinta, CA; one sister, Shirley Holt of Bothell, WA; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the United Methodist Church of Peterson, Iowa. There will be a military service conducted by the Dean-Underwood Post #10 of Peterson.
