Deb Orthmann

Deborah Jean Orthmann, the daughter of Arnold and Dorothy (Koch) Carlson, was born April 15, 1957, in Primghar, IA. Her childhood years were spent on a farm near Paullina where she received her education, graduating from Paullina High School in 1975. She continued her education at Lakeland Medical Academy where she graduated in 1976. Deb married David Orthmann on July 31, 1976, at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland, IA. Throughout their marriage, they farmed in the Sutherland area. For many years, Deb did housekeeping for the Harold Skaar family in Primghar. She worked for many years as a secretary for the United Methodist Church in Sutherland until she retired because of her failing health. Deb thoroughly loved spending as much time as she could with her husband, children and grandchildren. She passed away at her home in Sutherland at the age of 52, following a bout with cancer. Deb was preceded in death by her father, Arnold in 1971 and a brother, Dennis Carlson in 2007. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, David of Sutherland, IA; one daughter, Rachel and her husband, Eric Boardman of Ankeny, IA; three sons: Daniel Orthmann of LeMars, IA, Josiah Orthman and his wife, Jeni of Virginia Beach, VA, and Elisha Orthmann and his girlfriend, Sabetha Smith of Sutherland, IA; three grandchildren: Shala, Abigail and Eliot Boardman all of Ankeny, IA; her mother, Dorothy Fischer of Hartley, IA; two brothers: Douglas Carlson and his wife, Sandra of Orange City, IA, and Steven and his wife, Donita Carlson of Sutherland, IA; a half sister, Kimberly Fischer of Sheldon, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many, many friends.
