Delores Dorothy Johnson

Delores Dorothy Johnson, the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Kaupke Kopka was born February 19, 1917, in Francesville, Indiana. Her family moved to the Peterson area when she was 12. She attended the Brooke School south of Peterson where she graduated in 1934. Delores attended Buena Vista College and graduated with honors with a BA and teaching degree. Following college, Delores taught school at Calumet and then Rembrandt. She taught English, Commercial and eventually became the principal at Rembrandt. Delores married Stanley Johnson on January 1, 1946, in Spencer, Iowa. They lived in Rembrandt, Iowa, for two years before moving to a farm north of Linn Grove. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Peterson Variety Club and was active in the Legion Auxiliary in Peterson. In her spare time, Delores enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, cooking and especially spending time with her family. The last six winters, Delores loved being in Mesa, Arizona with her dear friend, Ted. She enjoyed the mountains and flowers there in the winter months. Mrs. Johnson passed away at the Spencer Hospital on April 15, 2006, at the age of 89. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Stanley, on May 6, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Kenny and her husband, Tom of Ruthven, IA; her son, Steve Johnson and his wife, Lora, of Linn Grove, IA; four grandchildren: Brandon Kenny, Matthew Kenny, Sarah Johnson and her fianc�, Michael Ruhs and Lucas Johnson; her special friend, Ted Feekes, of Peterson, IA; other relatives and friends.
