Dennis 'Denny' L. Nissen

Dennis 'Denny' Nissen, the son of Harold and Gladys Johnson Nissen, was born March 29, 1942, in Dickens, Iowa. His family moved from Gillett Grove to Spencer when he was a young child. Denny attended school in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School in 1960. On September 23, 1961, he married Mary 'Mollie' Thompson in Ruthven, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in Spencer until moving to Everly in 1969. Denny was a meat cutter and managed the Butcher Shop in Spencer for 35 years. Denny enjoyed doing yardwork, gardening, his favorite sports teams Pittsburgh Steelers and Iowa Hawkeyes and most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Denny passed away on December 14, 2015 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 73. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mollie and brother Greg. Denny is survived by one son, Joe (Kim) of Spencer; 3 daughters: Angie Gaede of Colby, KS, Julie (Mike) Tjebben of Spencer, IA and Lisa (Daryl) Heibult of Sibley, IA; 13 grandchildren: Angie, Michael, Chelsey, Nick, Samantha, Molly, Steven, Brandon, Lexie, Jonathon, Tyler, Logan and Marissa; 8 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Ronnie (Robbin) Nissen of Laurens, IA, Dave Nissen of Spencer, IA and Steve (Pat) Nissen of Spencer, IA; 2 sisters: Delores Kohlmoos of Onawa, IA and Dori Beck of Spencer, IA; sister-in-law, Vickie Nissen of Arizona; other relatives and friends.
