Dennis Lee Johnson

Dennis Lee Johnson, the son of Denton and Crystal (Bakke) Johnson was born November 19, 1949 in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent on the family farm near Sioux Rapids, IA, where he attended school and graduated from Sioux Rapids High School. He attended college for 2 years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served from 1971 to 1973 until his Honorable Discharge.

 Dennis worked with his dad at the gas station in Sioux Rapids before going to work as a custodian at the Spencer Hospital. In 2009 he met his significant other, Joyce Mason and they made a home together for 15 years. He enjoyed watching tv and movies. They also enjoyed traveling to different states for reunions for his service on the USS Prairie.

 Dennis passed away after a 19year battle with cancer, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Spencer Post-Acute Rehab Center in Spencer, IA, at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister, Delores.

 Left to cherish his memory are his companion, Joyce of Spencer, IA; one daughter, Sandy (John) Oliver; 2 grandchildren, Logan and Braden; one sister, Carol; other relatives; and friends.
