Diane Marie Anderson, the SPECIAL mentally and handicapped daughter of Arlen Anderson and Adele (Rathgeber) Anderson- Homewood was born on August 7, 1957, in Sioux City, Iowa.
She was admitted to Beatrice State Home in Beatrice, NE, at the age of 6. She was sent there to live and become rehabilitated. She learned new skills, to talk in phrases and walk. She lived at Beatrice for 44 years and was called the "Queen Bee" because she was boss and wore the hats.
In 2008, she was moved to Northstar Group Homes in Wayne, NE. While she was there she became close to the staff and her three roommates.
After a major surgery for colon cancer, she was moved to Regency Manor in South Sioux City, NE in 2012 and then came to Longhouse in January of 2013 to be near her two sisters. Diane loved taking wheelchair rides, watching people, cherry Pepsi pop and opening cards. Diane passed away from recurrent colon cancer on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Longhouse Residence at the age of 56. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Frank and Minnie Anderson and William and Emma Rathgeber.
Left to cherish her memory are her stepfather, Roger Homewood of Oelwein, IA; 2 sisters: Linda Griffin of Spencer IA and her friend Roland Sindt of Everly, IA; and Sandy Curry (Todd) of Spencer, IA; 2 brothers: Dave Anderson (Connie) of Centennial, CO and Brian Anderson of Omaha, NE; 3 nieces; 3 nephews; one great niece; 3 great nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
