Dianne E Hanson

Dianne Elise (Fabre) Hanson age 87 died at the Ruthven community care center on August 24, 2023 surround by family.

Dianne was born in Fairbault, Minnesota on August 15, 1936 to Cletus and Emma Fabre. She was one of five children. The family moved to Tacoma Washington when Dianne was five years old and where she completed her schooling. In 1955 she met and married a US Navy sailor, Vernon Swingen and moved to Iowa. Vernon and Dianne raised 5 children on a farm near Woden, Iowa until Vernon’s death in 1974. Dianne remained on the farm for a time and eventually moved to Forest City where she worked as a cook at various places. On April 1, 1983, she married Keith Hanson and moved to Britt Iowa. Keith and Dianne worked and made a home there until Keith’s death in 2009. Dianne continued working in Britt as a cook at the local hospital and then as a CNA at the care center. She also worked for a time at a local Casey’s until she moved to Ruthven Community Care Center in 2018 to be closer to family.

Dianne crocheted and crafted most of her life. She made afghan’s , crocheted name plaques, Christmas ornaments and clothing.  Dianne loved her coffee and had enjoyed using the latest coffee makers and accessories. She belonged to various groups throughout her life, Legion Auxiliary, Lions, and Red Hatters. She also loved to bake and cook, collecting numerous recipes throughout her life. Flower gardening was another hobby she enjoyed with mixed success. Through her later years Dianne would visit her children wherever they were across the states and territories.

Dianne battled with dementia during the last 7 years of her life with her family and the community care center staff supporting her during this long goodbye.

Dianne was preceded in death by her first husband Vernon Swingen, her second husband Keith Hanson, her brothers Milton Fabre and Douglas Fabre, her oldest son, Quintin Swingen and a son in-law Dennis Bortvit.

Her surviving family are her brother Gaylord Fabre of Milton WA, sister Marlys Johnson (Charles) of North Richland Hills TX, 2 sons; Galen Swingen (Ruth) of St. Thomas USVI and Larry Swingen of Ruthven IA, 2 daughters; Cyndi Swingen of Ruthven IA and Kristi Swingen of St. Thomas USVI, 3 granddaughters; Laura Schleusner (Travis) of Garner IA, Stephanie Daugard (Neil) of Britt IA and Kara DeWitt (Andrew) of Hanlontown IA. Nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews living throughout the country.
