Donald Arthur Olson

Donald Arthur Olson, the son of Arthur E. and Stella Lawson Olson, was born December 8, 1910, in Sioux Rapids, IA. His childhood years were spent in Greenville and Jackson County, Minnesota, where he received his education in country schools. Don married Winifred Gravley on February 10, 1930, in Jackson, MN. Following their marriage, they lived near the communities of Spencer and Greenville where he worked as a farmhand for different farmers for several years until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of the Royal United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau. Donald passed away at the Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle, IA, on Monday, June 5, 2006, at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Winifred, on June 24, 1995; one son, Orville; one daughter, Gladys, who died in infancy; three sisters: Leota Felton, Lucille Karschnik and Bernice Olson; three grandchildren; three great- grandchildren and two brothers: Clifford and Rasmus Olson. He is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Mae Kirkman and her husband, Leslie of Windom, MN; three sons and their wives: James and Nelda Olson of Sutherland, IA, Raymond and Carol Olson of Des Moines, IA and Alvin and Sheryl Olson of Carlisle, IA; a daughter-in-law, Suzette Olson (Orville) of Clarinda, IA; 14 grandchildren; 37 great- grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; five sisters: Letha Wolcott of Gillett Grove, IA, Winona Recher of Arnolds Park, IA, Dorothy Nielsen of Spencer, IA, Ruth Roskens of Spencer, IA and Gwen Klinefelter of Peterson, IA; other relatives and many friends.
