Donald Loyd Bryan, the son of Wesley and Margaret Porter Bryan, was born December 4, 1944 at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church of Greenville. Don attended Greenville-Rossie Consolidated School and graduated in 1962. He also studied agriculture at Iowa State University.
Don married Linda Orwig on November 6, 1966 in the Grace United Methodist Church of Spencer. They farmed in the Dickens and Ruthven areas until the present time. Don was an active member of the Dickens United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay leader and also was a lay speaker. He worked for the Clay County Fair for 40 years and served on the Executive Board for the past 10 years. He devoted countless volunteer hours to the fair. He also served on the Boards of Dickens Elevator, Farmer's Coop Elevator of Ruthven, Ruthven Coop Oil Company, and Farmland Board of Directors. Don also served in the 194th Unit of the National Guard of Spencer. Don's love was his family, friends, and time spent at Lake Okoboji.
Don passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007, as a result of a tractor accident on the farm. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Linda and three children: Michael and his wife, Jackie of Spencer, IA, Mark and his wife, Julie of Elizabeth, IL, Michele Christ and her husband, Shawn of Moline, IL; seven grandchildren: Emily, Carli and Austin of Spencer, IA, Xavier and Tavian of Elizabeth, IL, and Ethan and Alexander of Moline, IL; one sister, Beverly Kenobbie and her husband, Blaine of Kennebec, SD; his twin brother, Ron and his wife, June of Storm Lake, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.There will also be a Military Service conducted by the Glen Pederson Post #1 - American Legion of Spencer.
