Donald C. Mcqueen

Donald was born May 8, 1927 to Opal (Pixler) and Delbert McQueen on a farm near Kingsley. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School near Washta in 1945. In that same year he joined Pixler Electric with his uncles Ivan, Howard and Lester for a lifetime in electrical contracting, retiring in 1993. Don joined the Iowa National Guard in 1947, serving 34 years. He received the rank of Command Sergeant Major, and was on active duty in Camp McCoy, WI and Germany. He married Carol Hynes on August 22, 1954 in Ruthven. They were blessed with two children, Lyn and Brad. Family camping was enjoyed for many years. His retirement years were spent traveling on Amtrak, many bus trips with a Minnesota Polka band, and cruises to Alaska and Panama Canal. Don was a life member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where he served on the Trustees board. He served on the Sunset Retirement board and was a member of the Y's Men of the YMCA. He loved the Nutty Bar Stand #9 at the Clay County Fair. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #1 and the 2 Cylinder Club. He was honored by being chosen Spencer's 2003 Citizen of the Year. The coffee groups he attended were important to him, he loved to debate all subjects. Don enjoyed taking pictures of building projects around town and presenting completed albums. Don passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol of Spencer, IA; his daughter, Lyn Boriskie of Bryan, TX and her children Chelsea and Jerret of Bryan, and Jami Massick and her husband, T.J. of Indianapolis, IN; his son, Brad and his wife, Linda of West Okoboji, IA and their children Brandon and Amber. He is also survived by three great-granddaughters, Janelle and Jailene Graves and Jada Johnson; one brother, Robert McQueen and wife, Mary Jo of Mission Viejo, CA; many nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends civilian and military.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M., Friday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M, Friday evening at the Grace United Methodist Church.

INTERMENT
Riverside Cemetery Spencer, Iowa There will be a Military Service conducted by the Iowa National Guard following the graveside service.
