Donald Duane Paulsen, the son of John Carl and Matilda Alvina (Wede) was born on July 26, 1928, in Lone Tree Township, Clay County, IA. His childhood years were spent on a farm near Moneta, IA. He attended school in Moneta and graduated from Moneta High School.
He married Jean Heien on October 12, 1952 at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, IA. The couple lived in Everly for 20 years where he worked for Everly Schools as a custodian. They then moved to Spencer where he worked for Spencer National until his retirement after 25 years. He did work for Walmart part time in his retirement. They moved to Emmetsburg, Iain 2016 to be closer to his daughter. Donald also farmed throughout the years as well.
Donald was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. He had a passion for genealogy and family history. He belonged to over 6 Genealogy Societies at one time. Donald enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, growing produce and flowers. He loved to spend time with his wife and grandchildren.
Donald passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond; his sister, Shirley Lauritzen; his daughter, Diane Paulsen-Spears in 2012; and an infant great-grandchild.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean of Emmetsburg, IA; his daughter, Jody and her husband, Tom Leuer of Mallard, IA; his son, John and his wife, Phyllis of Baudette, MN; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
