Donald H. Hansen, the son of Carl and Agnes (Koep) Thomas Hansen, was born February 7, 1925 in Royal, IA. His childhood years were spent in Royal, and later Hartley, Iowa, where he received his education, graduating. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943, until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Don married LaVonne Goetsch on August 27, 1950 in Hartley, IA. Following their marriage, they made their home in Hartley. Don worked for Standard Oil for 16 years, Hartley Elevator for 12 years and at Eaton Corporation in Spencer for 10 years, until his retirement. He was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, serving as Treasurer and President of the Men's Brotherhood, Church Property Committee and usher. He was also a member of the American Legion where he helped at Bingo, the Lion's Club where he received the Lions of the Year Melvin Jones Fellowship award, the Community Memorial Hospital Board for 6 years, the Hartley Library Board for 6 years, a 30-year member of the Hartley Fire Dept, worked on the high school football "chain gang" for 35 years and was a school bus driver for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, dancing and woodworking. Don and LaVonne also enjoyed traveling south to Mesa, Arizona for the past several winters.
Donald passed away at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar, Iowa on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the age of 85. His parents preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, LaVonne of Hartley; two daughters: Barbara & her husband, Kelly McCarty of Spencer & Rebecca & her husband: Dave Johnson of Spencer; 4 grandchildren: Michael & his wife, Becky McCarty, Scott & his wife, Allyson McCarty, Diana Neidecker, & Sara Neidecker; 2 step grandchildren: Megan & Kaye Johnson; one sister, June Gonnerman of Okoboji; other relatives & many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday Evening with the family present from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday Evening at the United Church of Christ in Hartley.
