Donald Wayne Ibel

  Donald Wayne Ibel, the son of Benton Jennings and Ina May (Strong) Ibel, was born December 4, 1932 in Spencer, Iowa.  Don received his early education and graduated from the Spencer High School in 1950.   Following his schooling, Don entered the United States Army and served his country until his Honorable Discharge on April 29, 1956.  He then moved to Denison where he worked as Chief Engineer for KDSN Radio.

     Don married Donna Cathern Buckley on June 17, 1967 in Kiron, IA.  After their marriage, they continued to live in Denison, until moving to Spencer, IA in 1976.  Don returned to farm in Spencer.  He was a member of the “family” of the First Baptist Church in Spencer.  Don loved being in the outdoors and especially being on his farm.  He also enjoyed music, electronics, building gadgets and loved spending time with his family.

     Don passed away at Northshire Residence in Spencer on January 29, 2024 at the age of 91.   He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna on February 4, 2022; and his sister, Darlene Clark.

     Left to cherish his memory are his children: a daughter, Lonna (Wade) Powell of Columbia, TN; son, Layne (Robin) Ibel of St. Louis, MO; 4 granddaughters: Maia Powell, Morgan Powell, Auralia Ibel and Aurora Ibel; a sister-in-law, Virginia (Gary) Richardson of Thurman, IA; other relatives and friends.
