Donald LeRoy Meyer, the son of Elmer and Viola (Zemke) Meyer, was born on July 19, 1932, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was raised and received his early education there, graduating from Storm Lake High School. Following high school he entered into the military on June 7, 1951, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged on June 5, 1955. After his military service, he returned to Storm Lake where he drove truck for a short time and then was a salesman for Midcontinent Bottlers and this job took him to Spencer.
He married Donna Tamminga on January 6, 1968 in Spirit Lake , Iowa. The couple made their home in Spencer, and Don worked as a diesel mechanic for International Harvester for many years and then Graham Tire until his retirement. During his retirement he worked for Four Season’s Car Wash.
Don loved to read and watch gameshows on television. Over the years he loved to go camping with family and traveled to all 50 states. Don was a very social person and loved visiting with people.
He passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021, at St. Luke Lutheran Home, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna of Spencer, IA; his sons: Daron and his wife Emily of Ankeny, IA and their two children: Griffin and Halle and Kevin Dwyer and his wife, April of Cedar Rapids, IA, and their daughter, Sierra Kestel and her husband, Alex and their son, Jack; other relatives and friends.
