Donald 'Skeet' Waggoner

September 25, 1922 — July 21, 2008

Donald Dean "Skeet" Waggoner, the son of Frank and Ruth Bidwell Waggoner, was born September 25, 1922, in Sutherland, IA. His childhood years were spent in rural Sutherland where he attended Highland Township Country Schools. He later attended and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1940. Following his schooling, he moved to California and worked for an aircraft company in San Diego. Skeet entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy as an aerial gunner on a TB-F Torpedo Bomber from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Skeet married Winifred Louise Marks on November 16, 1945, in Chicago, IL. Following their marriage he worked on the farm for his father for nine months and later did carpenter work for Pete Krekow. In 1952, he started his own business of delivering gasoline which he continued until his retirement. In 1986, he was presented a plaque from the Sutherland School District for his more than 37 years service to the district. During that time, he ran the down marker as a member of the "chain gang" at the Sutherland home football games. He was a member of the Sutherland Fire Dept. for 25 years, member of the Sutherland Legion Post #152 for 50 years and past commander of the Sutherland Post and County Post. He was a member of the Abiff Lodge #147 since 1954. Winifred passed away April 3, 1993. He married Jackie Triplett Segelke on September 19, 1998, in Sutherland. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Sutherland where they enjoyed traveling and fishing. Skeet passed away at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar, IA, on Monday, July 21, 2008, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one infant daughter, Lori and two grandsons: Alexander Waggoner and Matt Lottman. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jackie of Sutherland, IA; one daughter, Linda Lottman and her husband, Gary of Sutherland, IA; one son and his wife, James and Kathryn Waggoner of Rapid City, SD; two grandchildren: Melanie Lottman Warner and Mari Waggoner; two great-grandchildren: Elise Warner and Ava Waggoner; one brother, Glen and his wife, Elaine Waggoner of Sutherland, IA; 2 stepchildren: Ron Segelke of Sutherland, IA, and Renee and her husband, Jim Severson of Cedar Rapids, IA; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the Church of Christ in Sutherland, Iowa

VISITATION
Visitation will begin after 12noon on Tuesday, with the family present from 7:00 - 9:00p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic Service at 6:00p.m.,Tuesday evening at tne funeral home and will be conducted by the Abiff Lodge #347 of Sutherland.

Waterman Cemetery Sutherland, Iowa Military Services will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post #152 - Sutherland, Iowa.
