Donald William Terpstra

Donald William Terpstra, the only son of Sidney and Arlene Terpstra, was born December 1, 1946 in Hartley, Iowa. He spent his early childhood years in Hartley, Iowa before moving west to California with his parents in 1957. Donald was an exceptional high school athlete, who played baseball and basketball. He went on to be a college basketball star at Valley College and California State University Los Angeles where his teammates called him "Terp". It was at California State University Los Angeles that he met his wife Terri. They married in 1969 in South Pasadena, CA and soon started a family. Donald worked in auto finance for most of his professional career, however, his true calling in life was coaching. He coached both his children in various sports and was so proud of their accomplishments. He never missed their sporting events despite a rigorous travel schedule for work. After retirement, Donald and Terri moved to Tega Cay, SC to be close to their daughter Melissa. He spent his days watching sports, Fox News, playing with his favorite feline Oliver, as well as spending time with neighbors and their families. He looked forward to visits from family and friends because traveling became difficult for him in his later years. Donald passed away at his home in Tega Cay, SC on February 29, 2016 at the age of 69. His parents, parents-in-law and son Marc preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Terri of Tega Cay, SC; one son Scott of Costa Mesa, CA and his children Juliana and Zachary; one daughter Melissa of Tega Cay, SC; numerous cousins; as well as extended family, friends and neighbors.
