Donna Cathern Ibel, the daughter of Orville Henry and Cathern (Hutchings) Buckley, was born August 28, 1941 in Lexington, NE. Her family moved to Northboro, Iowa when she was a young child and in 1946, moved to Blanchard, Iowa, where she received her early education. They moved to Lenox, IA in 1955, where she graduated from high school in 1959. Donna continued her education at Clarinda Junior College and then NW Missouri State University, where she graduated with a teaching degree. She taught school in Denison, Iowa for 7 years.
Donna married Don Ibel on June 17, 1967 in Kiron, IA. After their marriage, they continued to live in Denison, until moving to Spencer, IA in 1976. Donna stayed home and focused on raising her children for many years. She went back to work when they were older and worked for Standard Printing for 9 years. She was a member of the “family” of the First Baptist Church in Spencer. Donna also helped clean homes for elderly, loved working at the Clay County Fair every year, was a member of the community theatre, and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Donna passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the age of 80. Donna was preceded in death by her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don of Spencer; a daughter, Lonna (Wade) Powell of Columbia, TN; one son, Layne (Robin) Ibel of St. Louis, MO; four granddaughters: Maia Powell, Morgan Powell, Auralia Ibel and Aurora Ibel; a sister, Virginia (Gary) Richardson of Thurman, IA; other relatives and friends.
