Donna Doreen Christy

Donna Doreen Christy, the daughter of George Cora (Kolpin) Oatman, was born in Buena Vista County near Alta, IA. She was baptized on December 17, 1933, and confirmed at St. Peter's English Lutheran Church in Newell, IA, on March 30, 1947. The family moved southwest of Newell and she finished her education and graduated from high school in Sulphur Springs, IA. Donna married Don Christy on May 30, 1952, in El Paso, TX. Don was serving in the military during this time. The couple relocated to Washington State where Don was stationed. Don was discharged in 1954, and they moved to Sac City, IA, where they began to farm. In 1955, they moved north of Marathon and continued to farm. Donna worked on the farm right along with Don until their retirement in 1996. They moved from the farm to Milford in 2006. Throughout the years, Donna also worked at the Spencer Hospital and J.C. Penney. She enjoyed all sports, riding her bike and walking. She attended several LWML conventions over the years as well. In their retirement, they spent their winters in Arizona and summers at Lake Okoboji. In 2010, they moved to Golfview Condominiums when Donna's health started to decline. Donna passed away on October 27, 2015, at Northshire at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Merle and sister, Eileen Schaffer. Left to cherish her memory are husband, Don of Spencer, IA; three sons: Timothy (Becky) Christy of Webb, IA, Rex (Jeanne) Christy of Vinton, IA and Philip (Siri) Christy of Spencer, IA; 7 grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren; one brother, Jack Oatman (Audrey) of Storm Lake, IA; other relatives and friends.
