Donna Rae Norgaard

Donna Rae Norgaard, the daughter of Charles Blakesly and Lucille May Heddinger Underwood, was born March 17, 1932 in Spencer, Iowa. She received her early education and attended Spencer schools. In her teen years, Donna did babysitting and worked for the Spencer Theatre as an usher and popcorn maker. Donna married Alvin Virgil Norgaard on July 2, 1950 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, Alvin and Donna moved to farm SE of Spencer where they raised 6 children. Later they built a new home and Country Villa Mobile Home Park. In 1998, they built a new home in the south end of Spencer. They became "snowbirds" in Texas then Phoenix and later in Yuma, Arizona. Donna kept very busy as Alvin's assistant agricultural specialist, child rearing, problem solver and family religion instructor. She was active in various Church groups with Sunday school and Bible studies. Donna also volunteered at St. Luke Lutheran Home as a beautician. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and acting as party giver for graduations, marriages, holiday's, birthdays and other celebrations. She also loved fishing and camping but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Donna passed away on August 31, 2009 with her family by her side at her home at the age of 77. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Jimmy Lee Norgaard and granddaughter, Dixie Rae Norgaard. She is survived by her husband, Alvin of Spencer; her children: Charles (Tim) and Susie Norgaard of Spencer, Tom and Sharon Norgaard of Spencer, Christy Siedlik of Spencer, Terry Norgaard of Spencer, Todd and Tricia Norgaard of Dickens and Candice Thompson of Spencer; 23 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two sisters: Joanne and Dick Martyn of Des Moines, IA and Juanita and Dale Bailey of Colorado Springs, CO; other relatives and many friends.
