Dora Belle Hansen, the daughter of J. Chester King and Bessie (Gustin) King, was born March 3, 1920 in Clay County, Dickens, Iowa.
She received her early education in a rural school in Logan Township and attended High School at Dickens, Iowa and also furthered her education at Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, Iowa.
Dora married Edwin O. Hansen on March 2, 1943. They lived in the Ruthven, Dickens and Terril areas where they farmed until they retired and moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1983. Mrs. Hansen taught school for many years at the Lake Center and Terril Community schools.
She was a member of the Dickens Methodist Church for many years. While there she served as President of the Women's Society, taught Sunday School and also Bible School. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer where she attended Wednesday morning Bible Class. She was also a member of the 3rd Wednesday Card Club. She enjoyed working with her flowers and also baking.
Dora passed away on January 9, 2011 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin of Spencer; one son, Dean and his wife, Joan of Sheldon, IA; one granddaughter, Heather Bass and husband Jeffrey of Miami, FL; one grandson, Bryce Hansen of Sheldon, IA; one great grandson, Connor Bass of Miami, Fl. Her grandchildren were a source of great pride and joy to her. Other survivors include two sisters: Grace Hynes of Spencer and Stella Wilson and husband, Donald of Dickens, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa.
