Doris Ann Jespersen

September 10, 1927 — March 18, 2017

Doris Ann Jespersen, eldest daughter of Eibe and Alma (Hansen) Wilken, recently of Spencer and longtime Royal resident, after experiencing a short illness, was granted her wish to experience no more birthday's this Saturday, March 18, 2017. Born September 10, 1927, on a farm near Everly, Iowa she spent her younger years as a farm girl south of Rossie, attending school in Cornell and graduating in 1945. She continued her education at the Sioux City Business College in lieu of accepting scholarships from Buena Vista and Luther College. While in Sioux City, Doris met her future husband Norman W. Jespersen. Being a child of the depression, mom led a life of self-imposed penury of which she was aware, but unable to change. One of her greatest joys aside from her grandchildren, was stretching every dollar and saving every penny possible. Doris saw her life as being divided into twenty year segments; a homemaker, a Clay Central School secretary, and a Royal librarian. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Royal Legion Auxiliary. During this time, she enjoyed accompanying her children and grandchildren on many vacations and trips both internationally and in America. Always a good sport and up for an adventure, her presence on these trips is a favorite memory of all her grandchildren. Able to spend her last years at the Highlands, she was happy to make new friends and solve many a jigsaw puzzles. Left to cherish her memory are her children, James A Jespersen, DDS (Kathleen) of Iowa City and Rebecca J. Anthony (Tasos) of Singer Island, Florida; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Iris (Robert) Franker; niece and god daughter, Susan Sundberg; along with many relatives and friends.
