Doris Mae Schultz

Doris Mae Blanchard Schultz was born April 8, 1924 in Lone Rock, Iowa.  She was the 9th child of Jesse M. and Maude Blanche (Whitehill) Blanchard.  She was educated and graduated from Lone Rock Public School in May of 1941.  She attended A.I.B. Business College in Des Moines until her marriage to Alfred Schultz on February 1, 1942 at her parents’ home in Lone Rock.  Her greatest desire in life was to be a good servant to her Lord and Savior and a good wife, mother, and grandmother.  She became the mother of 5 children, Gary Gene, Rebecca Jane, Tim Alan, Debra Sue, and Todd Michael. She also enjoyed 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

     Doris and Alfred made their home in several communities.  In addition to Lone Rock, they lived in Ottosen, Whittemore, Peterson, and Dunlap, Iowa and Rushford, MN, retiring in Lone Rock in 1982.  In 2013, Doris moved to Spencer.  Doris held many jobs over the years including employee of the Lone Rock Telephone Company, postal worker for the Lone Rock post office, medical records secretary at St. Ann’s Hospital in Algona and secretary to the Superintendent of Dunlap Community High School.  She played piano for the Ottesen Presbyterian Church where she also taught music in the Sunday school.  Doris enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, sewing, crocheting, cross-stitching, reading, bowling, golfing, watching sports, and playing cards and games.  Doris was a member of the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Kerr-Hammerstrom Post #557, the Presbyterian Women of the Lone Rock Church, and the Lone Rock Senior Citizens.

     Doris is survived by her sons: Gary (Sherry) Schultz of Ankeny, IA, Tim (Kathy) Schultz of Rice Lake, WI, Todd (Deb) Schultz, of Black Hawk, SD, and her daughter, Debra Anderson of Peterson, IA; 12 grandchildren: Scott, David, Kent, Kurt, Brent, and Cory Schultz, Tait and Gage Anderson, Bryn Goettsch, Cozette Wittman, Sarah Colombo, and Bree Jalas; 18 great grandchildren: Erica Aleman, Dylan, Ryker, and Paycen Schultz, Cole, Elyse, Maddie, Gillian Wheaton, Elena and Atticus Colombo, Reid, Lane, Tristen, Olivia and Talen Anderson,  Jael and Aria Jalas, and Everly Goettsch; great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; daughter, Rebecca; her sisters: Rita Flynn, Lucille Sohns, Ersel Alme, brothers: Harlan, Gordon, Donald, Eugene and Jesse Blanchard, and her son-in-law, Rick Anderson.

INTERMENT
Private Family Graveside Services will be held on Monday, March 30th at East Lawn Cemetery in Algona, Iowa.
